A session of the trial of Abū Islām, owner of the ''al-Ummah'' channel witnesses and accused of religious contempt asked his defense team to change the session secretary, 'Isām Fū'ād, because he is a Christian which the court responded to, just as lawyer Ramadān Jād asked the statement to extract the testimony from the Azhar stated whether Jesus Christ was God or not. Abū Islām criticized these demands after the sessions ended.
Defense lawyer Ahmad Sayf al-Islām said that Abū Islām talked about nine-tenths of women who went down to Tahrir Square and that his client did not mention a particular group especially Christians but he did mention all the sects of the people Muslim and Christian, hence invalidating the trial which will be resumed on July 15. Seven of Abū Islām's followers attended the courthouse shouting chants and raising a banner saying that God will grant Abū Islām victory. The lawyer Najīb Jubrā'īl accused Abū Islām of contempt for Christianity, insulting Coptic women and tearing up a copy of the Bible in front of the U.S. Embassy in protest against a U.S. produced anti-Islamic video. Khālid Nūr al-Dīn, Abū Islām's defense lawyer, claimed that he does not have contempt for Christianity and he is tolerant of Christianity and its teachings (Haytham al-Bura'ī, al-Watan, May 21, p. 10).
