In his first decision to build a new church, President Muhammad Mursi (Mursī) has licensed the establishment of the Coptic Orthodox Church of the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul in New Nūbārīyah city in al-Beheira governorate. The Church welcomed the decision, and asked from the Presidency to consider the hundreds of other applications concerning church construction. However, Andrew 'Uwaydah, General Coordinator of the Maspero Youth Union Movement, said that Mursi is polishing the apple for the Church before the demonstration on June 30, and that the decision does not make sense as the government does not protect the churches that already exist ('Imād Khalīl, al-Misrī al-Yawm, Jun. 7, p. 1). Read original text in Arabic.
