Copts are divided following President Muhammad Mursi's (Mursī) decision to license the construction of the Coptic Orthodox Church of the Apostles Saint Peter and Saint Paul in New Nūbārīyah in al-Beheira governorate. The Church welcomed President Mursi's decision, and asked him to consider licensing further Church constructions. However, the head of the Maspero Youth Union said that President Mursi's decision was an attempt to dissuade Copts from participating in the June 30 demonstrations.
