The government’s decision to build the first church in the era of Mursi did not ease 'Adil Malāk's bitter feelings, although the two of them are neighbors near the Presidential Palace. The 61-year old believes that the President’s does not consider the interests of the Copts.
He describes the Copts' situation from his point of view with the following words, “ In the era of Mursi… Muslims divided themselves… and the Egyptians as well. The happening of the cathedral are not religious conflicts and the persecution of the Copts.” The decision to build a new church in al-Nūbārīyah in al-Beheira governorate is surprising, especially for the Orthodox community. Many people commented the government’s decision on social networking sites “Facebook” and “Twitter” stating that even if the president built ten churches the people would still be against him (Ahmad al-Shamsī, al-Watan, Jun. 10, p. 5).
