The normally quiet village of Tant al-Jazīrah in the town of Tūkh of al-Qalyubia governorate transformed yesterday (Jun. 12) into a fierce battle between the inhabitants. A dog attack on a herd of sheep owned by Muslims caused a war between Muslims and Copts involving firearms in the village, resulting in the hospitalization of ten people. The security forces of Tant received word that a fight had broke out initially between a Muslim and three Copts from the village which quickly escalated. Maj. Gen. Mahmūd Yusrī, head of Qalyubia Security Department, was quickly notified and forces were dispatched to contain the situation. Security has been strengthened in the area following the incident, and investigations and prosecutions are ongoing (Author not mentioned, al-Tahrīr, Jun. 11, p. 10). Read original text in Arabic.
