The "Change" movement in Alexandria rejected the warnings of 'Asim 'Abd al-Mājid to the Egyptian Church about participating in the Jun. 30 demonstrations and denounced the warnings as an attempt to terrorize the Coptic community. The movement's media spokesperson, Ihāb al-Qastāwī, said that Mājid is a criminal who has been accused of many crimes, included the assassination of President Anwar Sadat (al-Sādāt). Head of the media committee of the Coptic Orhtodox Milī (Lay) Council, Kamīl Sadīq added that President Muhammad Mursi's (Mūrsī) recent decision on Church building does not change the situation of Copts in Egypt, and that Copts like many other non-Muslim and Muslim Egyptians feel like they have suffered under the governance of Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood. He rejected the connection the decision to build the church and the attempt to allow Copts to participate in the "Rebel" campaign or demonstrations. He denied the Church had any influence on Copts participating in such activities (Muhammad Mijalī, al-Tahrīr, Jun. 11, p. 3). Read original text in Arabic.
