The Constitutional declaration, which was signed by interim President of the Republic ’Adlī Mansūr, initiated controversy among Egyptian churches  for not stating that non-Muslims have the right to be ruled by their own doctrines. Pope Tawadros said that he did not read the declaration yet while Rev. Dr. Safwat al-Bayādī, head of the Coptic Evangelical Church, said that the declaration came to please the salafī al-Nūr Party (Ahmad al-Sa’dāwī, al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, July 10, p. 3).
