[Coptic Evangelical Pastor] Ikrām Lam’ī (Reviewer’s note: al-Misrīyūn mentioned that Lam’ī is the President of the Evangelical Theological Seminary, however, according to the Presbyterian Mission Agency’s website, the President of the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Egypt is Rev. Dr. Atef Gendy (‘Atif Jindī). Lam’ī is the President of the Evangelical Synod of the Nile, head of the Coptic Evangelical Church media committee, Professor of comparative religions, and writer at al-Shurūq al-Jadīd) said that the Evangelical Church left the choice to hold activities to each church, according to the situation. He added that only one monastery and a number of small churches were closed in the governorates of Luxor and Sinai. On the political level, Lam’ī said that the Evangelical Church will not present to Egypt’s interim President ‘Adlī Mansūr any memorandum regarding the Constitutional declaration, but he requires that some representatives of the Evangelical Church will be part of the 50-members committee drafting the new constitution.
Coptic Catholic Bishop Antonius of Giza clarified that the Catholic Patriarch did not attend any meeting on the Constitutional declaration, but that he is communicating with the other churches to know their views on the matter. He added that Catholic Patriarch Bishop Ibrāhīm sent a letter to Mansūr, stressing that the Catholic Church’s objections on the topics emerged during the talks and remarking that the articles of the declaration came to please specific individuals (i.e. al-Nūr Party) without considering the Egyptian people and the June 30 demonstrations (Sarah Hāmid, al-Misrīyūn, July 16, p. 3).
