The Coptic Church has imposed complete secrecy over Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II's location after a Muslim Brotherhood advisor called for his assassination whilst addressing sit-in protesters at Rāb'ah al-'Adāwīyyah Mosque.

The Muslim Brotherhood and its allies have openly accused the Church of mobilization and some go as far as to accuse the Church of encouraging the June 30 demonstrations, funding protests, and even assaulting supporters of the deposed president, Muhammad Morsi (Mursī). Some consider this the beginning of symbolic religious assassinations.
