Al-Minya’s State Security Emergency Court convicted and sentenced 11 Copts to 25 years of life imprisonment who were involved in the case of Abū Qurqās, internationally covered by media, while 15 years of tight prison were given to eight Muslims. All the defendants will be under police surveillance for five years following the implementation of the sentence. The accident involving Muslims and Copts dates back to April of last year (2012), when a dispute that lead to the assassination of six people erupted between the family of a butcher and monastery, because of an speed bump put in front of the house of Alā’ Ridā Rushdī, candidate for the dissolved National Party in the parliamentary election (Hāzim al-Khūlī, al-Shurūq al-Jadīd, July 29, p. 7).
