Suhag's Deputy Security Chief, Major General Ibrahīm Sābir, denied the raising of al-Qaeda's (al-qā'idah) flag above  Saint George’s (Mār Jirjis) church. He also criticized reports claiming a lack of security control over marches which have taken place in the governorate. He indicated that the security apparatus is in control of all parts of the governorate, without encroaching on peaceful protests.
