Attacks on Copts

A report in al-Dustūr states that the reason the violence started in Diljā in Minya governorate was due to the hallowing that some Coptic women have started as a sign of happiness at the ouster of Mursī. As a result, Mursī’s supporters went to their house, evicted them, and set the house and its contents on fire. The report stated that many Muslims in the village have resisted the assailants, but in the aftermath of the dispersal of the sit-ins they were armed with heavy weapons and no one could stand in their way (Gamāl ‘Abd al-Maguīd, al-Dustūr, Sept. 24, p. 6).
