The representative of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Bishop Bola, threatened to withdraw from the Constituent Assembly in opposition to the formulation of the “identity-related articles”. Foremost of these articles is a suggestion to insert an interpretation of the sharī’ah principles in the Constitution’s preamble. Bishop Bola stated that the representatives of the Church were not part of the agreement between the Azhar and Nūr Party representatives concerning this suggestion. The Bishop also described that the first chapter of the Constitution is “completely Salafī” and “we have nothing to do with it”.
