‘Ashūrā’ day, in which the Shī’ites commemorate the martyrdom of Imām Hussayn Ibn ‘Ali have become a day for conflict between Sunnīs and Shī’ites. A number of Shite figures have announced that they are setting “condolences councils” in Al-Hussayn mosque. On his part, Shaykh Nassir Mūsá, the establisher of the coalition of the prophets’ companions’ coalition stated that there have been committees formed to monitor any Shī’ite attempts to commemorate ‘Ashūrā’ inside or outside the mosques.
