Coptic activists have demanded that churches pull out of the Constituent Assembly. The Sarkhah (“Scream”) Movement has denounced the position of the Constituent Assembly that it is allowing itself to be controlled by the member of the Nūr Party. Members of the Nūr Party in the assembly have persistently demanded removing the phrase “civil (secular) state” from the Constitution as well as including an article interpreting sharī’ah principles (Majdī Fikrī and Najwah Bikhīt, al-Dustūr, Nov. 27, p. 4). Read original text in Arabic.
