The Secretary of the Papal Council for Dialogue has delivered a letter from the Vatican Pope to the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Shaykh Ahmad al-Tayyīb. The letter assures the will of the Vatican to resume dialogue between both sides. He also assured that Al-Azhar seeks the amendment of the previous agreement between both sides in order to develop more effective ways to conduct dialogue built on cooperation and mutual respect. He also stated that “what happened in Egypt on the 30th of June is a popular revolution” and “we must stand together for the believers’ sake, in order to provide solutions for humanity’s problems”.  This took place during a meeting that was held yesterday (December 3) between a delegation of the Vatican, Dr. ‘Abāss Shūman, the Deputy of Al-Azhar and Dr. Muhammad ‘Azab, the advisor for Shaykh Al-Azhar for Dialogue (Diā’ Abu al-Safā, al-Akhbār, Dec. 4, p. 8).
