Despite previous statements from some Coptic leaders that they would refuse the Constitution and give a “no” vote in the referendum if it does not hold an article for a Coptic quota, Coptic leaders have approved the Constitution. The Vice President of the Coptic Evangelical Church, Andre Zakī, stated that he thinks that the Constitution is a progressive one that reflects the spirit of the June 30 Revolution, takes a strong position on coexistence, and represents a constitutional advancement in Egypt’s history. The coordinator of the Secular Coptic Stream, Kamāl Zākhir, stated that “in all cases we have to read the constitution in the current context and this is not a perfect constitution before us”.
