In his first visit to Upper Egypt, Pope Tawadros II will participate in the opening session on Coptic Heritage meeting that will take place in al-Muharraq Monastery in Asyut tomorrow Monday.
Church sources revealed that the Holy Synod will study a proposal submitted by Bishop Bisantī of the Helwan and Maꞌsirah Diocese. The proposal includes the adoption of a decentralization policy in matters of personal status, in the sense that the dioceses are to be responsible in separation and divorce issues between couples and meet the required solutions instead of conveying them to the Clerical Council.
According to the proposal submitted on granting couples the permission for a remarriage, the married couple that had agreed to separate or to divorce in front of a civil court, the diocese would then look into the case in a timeframe of three years prior to the granting permission for remarriage and in accordance with the spiritual lives of both parts during these given timeframe since the separation or the civil divorce (Ranīyā Nabīl, al-Sabāh, Feb. 3, p. 11).
