After President Muhammad Mursī’s and Chancellor Angela Merkel’s talks in Germany on Wednesday January 30, the President met representatives of the Egyptian community at the Egyptian embassy in Berlin.
When asked on the curfew imposed on the Suez Canal cities, Mursī explained that although he despises emergency actions, the curfew was a preventative measure to protect the citizens against thugs and hooligans who besieged the streets of Port Said. He, further, was asked on the increasing accusations against him, he said that some accused him of being linked to Hamas activities; however, he added, it was not Hamas who helped him escape prison amid the absence of security in Egypt at the dawn of the Revolution in 2011. Nevertheless, there were no lawsuits filed against him or 34 further Muslim Brotherhood, as they had been detained in Wādi al-Natrūn prison without charges, he added.
