In his speech in the UAE at the conference “Social Peace”, Ahmad al-Tayyib, Grand Imām of the Azhar, deplored the fact that global peace is tied to the whims of international politics and its changeability, saying that Islam viewed peace as the basis of international relations. He stated that the use of the veto in the United Nations, in relation to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, was one of the greatest causes of global terrorism, and also criticized the West for fighting wars in other continents with “invented enemies”, and for its armament factories (al-Shīmā’ ‘Abd al-Latīf, al-Tahrīr, Mar. 10, p. 18).
