Twenty-five terrorist bases in Sinai were demolished in skirmishes between security and armed forces and terrorist factions, resulting in the injury of some security personnel. Security sources revealed that the army and police forces figured out ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) plan to form an Islamic emirate in Sinai, and destroyed the organization’s structure. The first signs of this plan can be traced back to the rapidly increasing number of kidnappings of Copts, with the perpetrators asking for large ransoms. This tactic is similar to that employed by ISIS in Iraq, where they ask for approximately $250 from every Christian in order to keep them safe. Other sources clarify that other terrorist organizations like Bayt al-Maqdis and other fighters from Syria and Iraq hope to join forces and announce Sinai as an Islamic emirate under the jurisdiction of (ISIS). A terrorist organization in al-Gawrah in the south of Sheikh Zwayd city attacked a police checkpoint and, with the exchange of fire, two officers were injured. Their names are: Muhamad ‘Abdū Muhamad and Ahmad Mahmūd. (Salāh al-‘Alaqimy, Mustafá al-Shūrbajī, and Islām Muhamad, al-Akhbār, Jul. 18, p. 14). Read original text in Arabic.
