26 Christians suffered from an acute case of food poisoning on their way home from a school trip to visit the churches of Alexandria, Beheira, and Cairo. The trip, organized by Fr. Bakhūm Gaballāh, priest of the St. Bakhūm church in the village of al-Suām’ah in Suhag, was intended for the students of a special needs school. The food, prepared before the three-day trip, got bad because of the heat, and 26 students, teachers, helpers, and the priest himself, had to be transferred to the Beni Suef hospital for immediate medical attention. In a statement issued by Fr. Bakhūm, he stresses that the food was indeed prepared before the trip, as well as how they first began noticing a problem with the students on their way home to Suhag. The priest concludes by thanking the hospital manager and personnel for their treatment of the students in a timely and professional manner. (Muhsin ‘Abd al-Karīm, al-Wafd, Jul. 19, p. 2).
