The director of the Egyptian Centre for Economic and Social Rights have said that “corruption in Egypt is protected by law”. He also added that according to the centre’s last report titled “Commercial Activities and Human Rights”, economic elites are dominating the economy and blocking perfect competition in the market.  According to the centre, government investments on big projects such as the new Suez Canal “ignores other development priorities”.
