Professor ʿAbd al-Maqsūd Pasha, member of the higher council of Islamic affairs stated that Yāsir Burhamī’s fatwa declaring it was “halal” to destroy a church “is a catastrophic fatwa”.  Pasha added that “Burhami is not a mufti and I am surprised that he is speaking on issues like that”; “one of the greatest things about Islam is that it allows churches to remain in Muslim countries because Islam respects others’ feelings”.
