The Copts in the year of Sīsī: Many presidents and citizenship still absent

After nearly a year under Sīsī, Egypt’s Christian minority has mixed feelings in regards to progress made during his presidency on Coptic issues. Some praised his visits to cathedrals, his strong reaction to the killing of 21 Egyptian Copts in Libya, and his approval of the building of several new churches. He is the first Egyptian president to have attended a Christmas Mass. Others criticized his use of martial law to resolve sectarian disputes in Upper Egypt, and the lack of Coptic appointments as University presidents or in leadership positions in government.
