On Saturday, Dani Danun, Israeli Minister of Science and Technology, described the attempt of academic and scientific boycott of Israel as modern anti-Semitism
The Hebrew radio reported that the Minister announced that Israel shall respond to this blockade by increasing the number of international activities and investments in Israel.Yesterday the Minister met with Bertus Levi, the Chairman of the Committee of the Deans of the Israeli Universities to discuss the Academic Boycott of Israel. The Minister recognized the necessity of arranging meetings with each one of these deans to further discuss the issue.He mentioned that the pressure exerted on Israel by the Palestinian authority by highlighting Palestinian repression under Israel is what led some international universities to announce cutting off relations with Israeli universities.

Relations of Freedom on the principles and ethics of religion in the Arab Public Secondary School Exams
After they completed their exams, the student of the al-Munīra Preparatory School for Girls said that some questions were easy and others hard. In the Arabic language exam, one question asked to write an article that expressed respect for the community which struggles towards the elevation of its homeland. Another question asked the students to write about the relevance of sound religious and ethical principles for the achievement of freedom.

The Interior Minister calls for support to promote human rights
The Interior Minister General Majdī ʿAbd al-Faghār expressed at the meeting held on Saturday, June 6, the need to strengthen the relations with the citizens and to uphold human rights through the preservation of their freedom in order to achieve national security and stability. He stressed the importance of consolidating a relationship of trust between citizens and the police, especially in view of the security preparations for the holy month of Ramadan.

The Committee for Human Rights demands the putting of an end to the violations against the rights of lawyers
The Committee for Human Rights in a statement on Saturday talked in favor of the syndicate of lawyers, praising their work and their fighting against injustice and corruption. The Committee pleads for the safeguarding of their rights, which have been witnessing abuse day after day while carrying out their job. Finally the Committee urged the Interior Minister to vow not to repeat the attacks on the rights of lawyers, which were put under threat by former and current officials under his personal responsibility.

Human Rights Watch: “The Egyptian discourse on human rights does not mirror reality.”
Joe Stork, Deputy Director for Human Rights Watch, pointed to the fact that President ʿAbdu al-Fattāh’s discourses on human rights, which he delivers in his meetings abroad, contrast sharply with his actual line of action in the cooperation with human rights activists. He added, during the conference held at the Egyptian-American Institution for Human Rights that Human Rights Watch observed the exorbitant numbers of people killed in numerous illegal circumstances in Egypt.

The creation of a commission to eliminate discrimination represents a quantum leap
The Ambassador Mushīra Khattāb, previous Minister of State for Family and Population delivered a lecture entitled “International Standards for Human Rights and for the Rights of Women and Children” organized by the Centre for Judicial Studies. She analyzed the situation of women and children, referencing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As regards the difficulty to establish a commission for the elimination of discrimination, she stated that the problem does not lie in the legislation but in the very culture of the community, and stressed the need to raise awareness about these issues on all segments of society.

Jibrā’īl: “the Victims of the Personal Status Law are sons of the Church, even if they erred in organizing protests”
Lawyer Najīb Jibrā’īl, head of the Egyptian Union for Human Rights, commented on the latest crisis that saw various Copts Victims of the Personal Status Law staging a protest in the cathedral during the Pope’s sermon. He said that what happened could lead to rebellion and disobedience to the Church, since the problem was not dealt with properly. He stated that although those individuals should not stage protests in churches, the way the Pope dealt with them was not appropriate: the Pope is their Father and should not hand them to the police.

Abrogation of a previous ruling that saw Hamas as a terrorist organization in Egypt
The abrogation of the ruling that condemned Hamas as a terrorist group faced some opposition, carried out specifically by the two lawyers Samīr Sabrī and Ashraf Farhāt, who teamed up with the State Litigation Authority. They claim that the Court is not fit to rule on whether Hamas is a terrorist organization. Supporters of this new ruling believe that the recognition of Hamas as a non-terrorist party will not hinder the government’s surveillance over the activities of the Islamic Movement linked to the Muslim Brotherhood.

The British Chambers: Egyptian society turned against the Muslim Brotherhood
The British Chambers “Bedford Row” which is specialized in Public International Law, published few days ago the second part of its study on the Muslim Brotherhood and on the period in which this organization ruled in Egypt. The study shows that although Mursi’s government lasted only one year, it saw “the worst economic disaster in Egypt since 1930”, with the dramatic rise of unemployment rates, accompanied by the “destruction of Egypt’s reputation abroad”, with a disastrous impact on tourism, one of Egypt’s most important economic resources.
