Sherif Gaber, a young Egyptian, has been on the run in his country since The Suez Canal University reported him to the authorities for setting up an anti-Islam Facebook page in 2013. This happened after he openly argued with a professor at the University during a lecture about homosexuality. A couple of months after this incident, he was arrested but was released after forty days and a $130 bail.
C. Hulsman: Sherif Gaber is very pro Israel and has coupled this to a very negative stance on things he sees in Egypt. Of course that goes against the current in Egypt. The subject is also highly politicized and thus risks being hijacked by political activists to foster their own agenda. I do not find the arguments of Gaber in this article convincing. Anyone can claim anything. The article is also presented in a sensationalist way. The case of Sherif Gaber would definitely need more research in order to find out why he ran into troubles and what is true in this story and what is not.
