In the aftermath of the military coup that removed the first civilian-elected President in Egypt’s history, journalism has become a dangerous profession. A large number of journalists have died in Egypt such as Shahīd Ahmad ‘Āsim. Many have been wounded, killed, and arrested by the police. Journalism has become a target of security forces in order to create an atmosphere that conceals the truth about the situation in Egypt.
