The Arab-West Foundation is asking for your support for the work our partners in Egypt carry out in difficult circumstances. We need your support to fully fund their work for the remainder of the year.
The Center for Arab-West Understanding in Egypt has become the largest internship provider in Egypt. Most interns find the center through the website of CAWU that was fully upgraded with help of Misereor in 2015. The websites that were upgraded also concern CIDT, AWF and AWR. Necessary work, however, has also led to an unavoidable deficit of 8.191,- and we need your support to help cover those costs.
We, with our Egyptian partners, have published hundreds of articles, supported student interns in writing tens of reports. Interns have also carried out interviews and we have written tens of newsletters throughout the year, organized forum discussions and made visits throughout the country. Too often visitors remain in Cairo and other big cities only but we are capable of taking visitors to locations that are rarely ever visited by non-Egyptians.
Our reporting and documentation shows how complicated issues can be. We are doing this with well-informed sources from Egypt. Different scholars have praised our work for its unique contribution to better understanding of Muslim-Christian relations in Egypt that are so often misunderstood due to lack of sufficient information.
Some major reports are forthcoming:
- The 2014 Egyptian Constitution in Context; Perspectives from Egypt – to be published with Missio (in German) and Tectum (in English)
- A 180 page issue of our Arab-West Journal about the violence and hate speech following the overthrow of president Morsi on July 3, 2013 (we will print only 100 copies of which the cost needs to be covered through sale)
- A book on the role of Islamist movements during 2013, to be published with Tectum
Producing these reports, upgrading and maintaining our websites is, however, a costly endeavor. We need your help to carry out our work.
