 According to the Egyptian public statistics bureau, the number of divorces in Egypt reached 2.5 million in 2011 as expenditures related to divorce also peaked at 350 thousand Egyptian pounds. Personal Status Law allows a woman to request a divorce if her husband is absent for more than a year.
