Ramsīs al-Najjār, Coptic Orthodox Church’s Legal Consultant, said that al-Milī (Lay) Council of the church will issue a new Personal Status regulations to resolve divorce issues. Meanwhile, Coptic Orthodox Pope Tawadros II is heading a conference about personal status at Bishop Bishoy Monastery (Dayr al-Anbā Bīshūy) in Wādī al-Natrūn.

Al-Najjār said that during the conference the Pope stressed that the Church will not allow divorce except for adultery, but the Church is studying to expand the interpretation of infidelity to “electronic infidelity, emotional infidelity and any other sexual activity that does not involve intercourse” (Mājī Jamāl, al-Sabāh, Mar. 20, p. 5). Read original text in Arabic.
