Doctor Salāh Salām, member of the National Council for Human Rights, responded to the outrage over the former Justice Minister’s comments wherein he said that sons of refuse collectors could not be appointed to the Judiciary. Salām said that this comment reflects the reality of judicial appointments. He claimed that the comment provoked people because they agreed with it. Salām added, in a television interview with the program “al-Sā’a al-Sābi’a” that the only way to raise the values of justice in society is through providing equal opportunities and combating socio-economic discrimination.
