Burhāmī: “Forbidding circumcision is against the law and the judges’ atonement is not authentic”
Shaykh Yāsir Burhāmī, Vice President of the Salafist Call, said that the Personal Status laws in Egypt are derived from Islamic Sharīʿa rulings, and that saying otherwise represents an unfounded claim. He affirmed in a fatwa published on the website “I am the Salafite” that the repudiation of the woman is accepted by Egyptian courts. With regard to the question of homosexuality being legalized and female circumcision being prohibited, he stressed that the Egyptian laws did not authorize the former and that the prohibition of the latter would go against Sharīʿa law. He also stressed the difference between rightful circumcision and the “medically harmful one” known as the “African circumcision”.
