The Coptic Orthodox Church announced last month the amendment on some articles of the new personal status law. According to Church sources, a draft, which has been completed by Bishop Bōla of Tanta, foresees expanding the grounds for annulment of marriage. Once approved, the new law will help resolve many long-pending appeals for divorce, especially after late Pope Shenūda II had refused the 1938 Regulation and many court verdicts that came based on this regulation.
