In an interview with media presenter Mona Salmān, Dr. Butrus Butrus-Ghāli, former Secretary General of the United Nations, confirmed that the population explosion Egypt is facing, is a crucial issue that, unfortunately, has never been seriously tackled by the different political leaderships. According to Ghāli, this problem has not been taken into consideration by Egypt's intellectual class either, and pointed out that the religious currents in the country have fostered an anti-birth control mentality.
