Egypt's Grand Mufti, Dr. Shawqi `Allām stated that many organizations and groupings have intentionally misinterpreted the relationship between religion and politics in order to serve their own political interests and agendas. According to `Allām, it is important to explain this relationship from the point of view of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), in order to unveil abuse of religion in the political arena.
