An incident of mass sexual harassment targeting a girl in al-Manṣūra, Egypt, has recently caught the public’s attention. The case is just one of repeated cases of group harassment which take place in public places, and often happen on public occasions and holidays. News of the incidents normally spreads on social media and then gets picked up by media outlets and becomes a topic of public discussion. Unfortunately, concern regarding these cases is also seasonal. Before social media, the cases garnered even less attention, and even discussing them was sometimes seen as a stain on the national reputation.
