The Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Manpower Committee, Sūlāf Darwīsh, has praised comments made by the Grand Imām of al-Azhar, Dr. Aḥmad al-Ṭayyīb, about the misuse of the term ‘freedoms’ by the West. Dr. al-Ṭayyīb had stated that the world was in need of religion to help solve the conflicts caused by the vices of humans, and had highlighted attempts by the West to impose their culture on the people of other cultures. Darwīsh pointed out that freedom of religion should not be used to insult the beliefs of others. Dr. al-Ṭayyīb also drew attention to the issue of mass emigration from Africa and the need to facilitate growth in the continent.
