The stormy debate over the new NGOs law has not abated. It is claimed that the new law, which was endorsed by the People’s Assembly before it went into recess a few days ago, was maliciously designed by the government to firmly control NGOs. It is alleged that the law was put forward after some NGOs deliberately trespassed on political activities and misused the financial assistance they receive to destabilize society and embarrass the government. The debate gained momentum after the US State Department voiced its concern over the future of NGOs in Egypt.
