The banned Muslim Brotherhood caused a

surprise yesterday when it mentioned that it would be willing to change its name if the

government would allow it to form a political party. Muhammad Mahdi Akef, the supreme guide of

the Brotherhood, said that what the Brotherhood has suggested is merely an initiative, but

analysts see the step as a large-scale political change and perhaps a green light for them to

form a political party.
