The beheading of hostages in Iraq and Saudi Arabia left the media the world over horrified and uncertain about how much should be shown. Media outlets worldwide, with the exception of Arab media, did not know how much to show or publish about these events. As I scanned Arab satellite channels and Arabic newspapers, I found a lot of reporting of these brutal attacks, but very little condemnation and a widespread willingness to run the stomach-turning video and photos again and again.
Many Arab newspapers and satellite TV channels were ready to show videotapes and publish photos about these cruel actions with little condemnation.
