A crisis flared up lately between the Israeli and the French governments as a result of statements given by Ariel Sharon before a gathering of American Jews in Jerusalem.
Sharon called upon French Jews to emigrate to Israel as quickly as possible.
Sharon’s statements unified all French political trends that described them as “intentionally sarcastic.” Some politicians described Sharon’s invitation to French Jews as an “outbreak that did not take into consideration the measures taken by the French government to combat anti-Semitism.
