For four concessive weeks, the issue of unifying the Adhān in the greater Cairo area has caused controversy. Several opinion articles have attacked the decision as well as the decision makers, including the minister of endowments. Those who attacked the decision saw it as a decision imposed by a foreign power that seeks to undermine religious rituals in Egypt. On the other hand, a number of columnists have supported the decision, stressing on the fact that the voice of the Adhān would be more harmonious instead of the chaotic intersection of the many Azans coming out of different mosques.
