Dutch MP of Somali origin Ayyān Hirsī cAli appeared in the Dutch parliament headquarters in the Hague on January 18, 2005 for the first time since she left the country aboard a military aircraft on November 10, 2004, just eight days after the assassination in the streets of Amsterdam of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh, director of a 11-minute documentary called Submission, which offended the Muslim community.

The assassin had left a message attached to the dagger with which he stabbed Van Gogh to death. It contained a threat to kill cAli and other “unbelievers."
