During the latest International Cairo Book Fair, more than 13 books were banned from publication. This took place in spite of President Mubārak’s assertion to writers that no books would be banned without a judicial verdict. This year, many Arab publishers complained that many of their books were banned from entering the Book Fair, although Dr. Wahīd ‘Abd al-Majīd, Head of the Book Organization, denied that the banning of any books occurred.
