This article deals with a number of political and social Coptic issues currently being discussed in Egypt. It deals mostly with the viewpoints of MP Mustafa al-Fiqi, who desires a Committee of Religious Affairs to take care of many of these issues, like church building and Copts in the government. A new Bill has been submitted for building houses of worship, but the author argues that it gives far too much authority to the government, which is too bureaucraticand unfair to the Coptic population. Secondly is the issue of Copts in the government, in which al-Fiqi denies that there is any sort of discrimination, although the author cites specifics against this.
