Youssef Sidhom continues to review the “Sectarian violence throughout two years”, recently issued by the Egyptian Initiative for Personal Rights (EIPR). On the whole the EIPR concludes that the state has no clear means to control these incidents, for the government denies that sectarian violence is an issue in the first place. When government officials did intervene, the EIPR asserts that it was to impose calm rather than to enforce the law. It also claims that equal numbers of Copts and Muslims are usually jailed, despite the fact that Copts are usually the victims. Also victimized Copts are often relocated away from their homes with the attackers going unpunished.
