This article outlines a number of different discriminatory statements and issues brought up against Copts in Egypt. Firstly are the statements made by Mohamed Abbas who recently said that Copts are coddled by the Egyptian government and are treated better than Muslims when both are in prison. He also stated that churches are nothing more than arms warehouses, provoking fear and suspicion of Copts. Secondly is the forced memorization of the Qur’an for Christian students. Thirdly are statements which desire to view the Azhar as the most important part of Egyptian society and history, instead of the pyramids. Lastly is the media attack by Abu- Islam Ahmad ‘Abd Allāh on his television show, stating that Christianity is a pagan religion and Muslims should rise up against it.
