Coptic activist Kamāl Zākhir accused the Wafd Party of attempting to form a secret alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood such as what took place in 1983. He insits on resigning from the Wafd party, arguing that legitimate instiutions should not coordinate with illegitimate organizations.

On the other hand, Munīr Fakhrī ‘Abd al-Nūr, the Wafd’s secretary, stated that the Wafd should communicate with the Muslim Brotherhood and other political streams to learn the points of agreement and disagreement between them.
