In an interview with al-Misrī al-Yawm, Bishop Bishūy, Secretary of the Coptic Orthodox Holy Synod, said that accusing the Church of kidnapping Kāmīliyā Shihātah and Wafā’ Constantine is "nonsense". "They are in a safe place to protect their lives and the Ministry of Interior knows that they are in a safe place," Bishop Bīshūy said.
Additionally, he stressed his love and loyalty to President Mubārak and his son Jamāl Mubārak. He added that he always stated his love for the President and his son from his heart, not as a compliment. He added that Mubārak's presidency is the most beneficial for Copts in Egypt, regardless of some problems that the President did not cause. As for Jamāl, Bishop Bīshūy says, he is a polite person who loves Copts.
In response to a question about attempts to convert Egyptian Orthodox youth by other Christian denominations such as the Evangelical Church, Bishop Bīshūy stated that the spread of these other denominations is financed by the United States of America. He added that the youth are attracted by their retreats which are cheap and offer sports and pools where both females and males are mixed. At the end of the day they give them a Protestant sermon.
